My birth-day
Twenty four years ago, on April 28, my mom gave birth to me. Now here I am, almost a quarter-century later, a soon-to-be momma. Someday I'm going to be in her shoes... maybe twenty four years from now... watching my son or daughter get ready for parenthood. It's going to be a long journey to get there I'm sure... there will times of joy, sorrow, laughter, and tears... but through all of it we will be family.

On this day
I have some bare belly pictures I'm thinking about posting, but since I just added my 32 week picture last night I thought I would just give you this little teaser today and see how many people really want to see my stretched out skin. (in other words... let me know if you want to see them!)
This morning I Googled "April 26." (Doesn't it bug you that the name of a search engine has become part of our vocabulary?) I think I'm going to have to Google dates more often. It was very interesting.
Did you know...?
26 April 1900 Charles Richter (as in the Richter scale that measures earthquakes) was born.
26 April 1956 The first container ship left Port Newark, New Jersey, for Houston, Texas.
26 April 1963 Jet Li was born.
26 April 1986 The nuclear meltdown at the Chernobyl plant occurred.
26 April 1989 Lucille Ball passed away.
There were many many other events, births, and deaths listed... I just picked the ones that stuck out to me from the 20th century that were listed on Wikipedia's April 26 page.
Also of note, 26 April 1987 was the estimated due date for my mom to have baby me!
Today, on this particular 26th of April, I find myself happily married, very pregnant, and full of chocolate milk, sitting on the couch in my parents' living room. The dogs are sleeping sprawled on their sides, eyes closed, looking ever so peaceful. The wind chimes and highway noise blend together with the birds chirping into the kind of lullaby that makes you sleepy on a warm summer day.
...It's hard to imagine that people around the world could be experiencing anything different. I know though, that on this day some are surrounded by violence, some are watching snow fall, some are desperate for a little water, and some are spending too much money on something they don't need. That's something to think about.

Cottage cheese
Joe thinks cottage cheese is disgusting. I'm pretty sure it's more of a texture issue than anything else. Last night, though, he made sure to point out that he had a serving on his plate.
Throughout my pregnancy, most likely because it wasn't available in Bulgaria, I have craved cottage cheese. I'm not talking about the I-feel-like-I'm-going-to-die-if-I-don't-get-some kind of craving, just the I'd-really-love-to-have-some kind. So the first week we were back, Joe and I headed out to Kroger. You know what we got? Ice cream and cottage cheese. I'd say that beats pickles any day.
No worries... I didn't eat them together. However, I did find out that there are many, many choices when it comes to buying cottage cheese. Not only do you have differences in brand, but you've got 4% milkfat minimum, 2% milkfat, and fat free. On top of that you have large curd vs. small curd. And then you can get the cottage cheese singles packs that come with a fruit mix of some kind that you mix in. In case you're wondering, I recommend the Kroger-brand, 4% milkfat minimum, small curd cottage cheese. (Now that's a mouthful!)
My grandparents were here after church yesterday for an Easter lunch. We had all the fixin's... ham, corn, pineapple, four bean salad, crescent rolls, and (save the best for last!) chocolate-covered strawberries. Now, if you know my family, you know that one of our favorite meals is ham rolls made with King's Hawaiian bread rolls. We got to talking about them and that, of course, got my pregnancy tummy growling for some ham rolls, cottage cheese, and salad...
And then Dad and Joe volunteered to go to the store to get some! Now, they are obviously my two favorite men in the world, but don't go thinking their motivations were completely selfless... they did come back with a Redbox movie along with the groceries after all!
As for Joe's opinion of cottage cheese... he ate it, but I'm not sure he'll be craving it anytime soon.

Joe's Pic[k]: Befriending t-rex
For Saturday posts, Joe will be picking out a picture from the past each week and I'll write a little blurb for ya!
If you've never visited the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, I highly recommend it. Joe and I went to D.C. on a date one time and checked it out because he had never been before. We also enjoyed the Air & Space Museum and the Museum of American History.
Enjoy your Saturday!

A baby means...
Thank you to the women from my parents' church who put together a beautiful baby shower for Joe and I this week. It was so meaningful!
One of my favorite cards from the shower:
A baby means...
room arranging,
diaper changing,
late-night feeding,
story reading.
A baby means...
mess ignoring,
cereal pouring,
singing, rocking,
cabinet locking,
long walk taking,
early waking,
grins and coos,
pinks and blues.
And this is just a start -
most of all, a baby means a love that fills your heart!

Restless legs

Joe finds it entertaining to watch my belly writhe about when Baby's awake. I find it... well... stretching. Everyday I look in the mirror and think, Is it really possible that my skin could stretch to accommodate an even BIGGER belly? I have mentioned this to other women, of course, and the response I always get is an emphatic, "Oh, yes... you can get MUCH bigger!"
Well... here's to growing another few inches around the mid-section!

Painting pickets
Joe has been working with my parents in their small home repair business since we've been back to help them out as well as make a little cash. I get to stay home and do my own work - growing Baby.
Painting pickets for the fence they're working on
The weather here has been perfect for the past few days. [Notice in the above picture Joe and Dad are both wearing hats to protect them from the sun. Unfortunately for Joe, his neck still got a little red by the end of the day.] The weather man says that a cold front should be coming through any day now, so hopefully they're able to finish their outdoor work in time!
In our "spare time," Mom and I have been working on a baby quilt. The pattern we're using is called a rag quilt. One of my American friends in Bulgaria had one for her daughter, and I mentioned it to my mom as something we should try.
The quilt is "work," but it's so much fun! I highly recommend that you try making one if you can get a hold of some flannel and a sewing machine!

The days to come
I've been blogging since 2004, when I went on a mission trip to Senegal with some youth from my church. With every big life transition I've made, a new blog has been created to accompany me on the journey. Joe and I just finished a 9-month missions term in Bulgaria, and now we're moving back to the States and preparing for the birth of our first baby, so a new blog seemed appropriate.
A year ago I was working as an RN in a local doctor's office. I never could have imagined then what my future held for me. It's strange to think that there was ever any other plan, though. Motherhood is a new adventure for me, and it's unique in that it has no end. My heart is already overflowing with love for Joe and I's little baby, and I am filled with hope for the days to come.
